ruins

An abandoned Sugar mill. Slowly being eaten by time and jungle. The plantation culture lives on as the descendants of the immigrant workers carry their history into their new urban lives. Hawaiian "local" food is plantation food.

Concrete Landscape 5

To finish up this series for the moment, another "captive" little piece of green down the bottom of a dark well.

Concrete Landscape 4

As I post this image, shot while at the Honolulu airport, I can hear a bulldozer clearing the rainforest a quarter of a mile away, making room for more houses. More an more lots are being totally cleared of ohia forest and being ripped and rolled from edge to edge right up to the property line. The forested areas here on the Island of Hawaii are being eaten up an acre at a time. I'll post some images in the next few days.

This "urban" landscape is probably the most familiar to the majority of people now days. We get our glimpses of nature on line, or at the magazine rack at Borders, or growing in a neglected planter box in a parking lot

Seascapes

I keep being drawn to the seascape. Jung said water represented the unconscious... Perhaps. Dreams are often of the sea, waves, tides, fierce, thrilling. Just “a few days ago” in the time scale of history, the phrase “mysteries of the deep” held true unknown, serpents and sirens.

We are really not too removed from that in our “modern” hearts.
